I've studied studio art extensively almost majored in art history and freelance as a web and graphics designer. Mr. Peony and I are having a ball of a time planning a wedding for 250(!) guests doing our best to drill our personalities (geeky chic) with the wishes of our very traditional Asian parents. Then my parents surprised me with some wonderful news. They told me that they support my decision not to go on a honeymoon; it is the responsible thing to do and they were proud of me for having made such a difficult decision. However they were both very sad that I couldn’t go on a nice honeymoon especially because they couldn’t drop one either when they got married years ago (my parents both come from very large but very poor families). They also knew that Mr Peony and I had never gone on a romantic pass before… My parents want to pay for our honeymoon! It will be my birthday. Mr Peony’s birthday and our wedding presents combined. When I relayed the news to Mr Peony he confessed that he had been working on something too! He had been secretly saving extra money and talking to his Greek friends about nice but affordable accommodations. He was planning on surprising me as soon as everything was set. I felt so loved and was overwhelmed with emotion. Last night while lying in bed I blinked back tears for having such wonderful populate in my life. Now we are in beat honeymoon planning mode as well. I found out that the week we will be visiting is Greek Holy Week which is a great time to visit with all the extra festivities. I’m thinking of visiting Athens. Mykonos and Santorini. I don’t really care if we stay in nice hotels just as long as we get.

"Mui Ne journal: Honeymoon Island" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 04:22:39

I took an extremely noising four hour bus journey to Mui Ne North of Saigion on the coast. At the end of it I had tooting ringing in my ears but you get used to it after a while. Not really knowing where to get off something you also undergo to get used to here and in South America I also manage (touch wood) to get off around abouts where I want to be but only because I am alert otherwise I would have ended up I the next town. One thing I haven’t gotten used to is the fact that you don’t get hostels here in Asia in general I thing. You get your own dwell and your own bathroom which is nice but the manifold bed makes me conclude a little lonely and only reminds me that Felipe is not here. To alter it worse I have arrived to the love island of Vietnam. I decided to undergo a relax on the beach and all I was seeing was those beautiful couples skipping along transfer in hand on the beach splashing wet at one another and giggling at the fact they just got the other wet despite already being in the sea. Although I had wanted to get away from the non-stop celebrate in Australia I wasn’t ready to change state yet therefore instead of move I made the decision to take the next bus out to Dalat located in the Central highlands of Vietnam. I have seen enough now on my measure night picking the hotel restaurant for newly weds I decided to order more food to increase my hip continue and drink away my loneliness (not that bad not too mind exaggerating a little) non-alcoholic drinks all the way. It’s just started to rain (I know it follows me everywhere) so I am stuck in the corner of love for a while. I ordered another drink. Coconut shake thinking it would be desire something out of only fools and horses it comes out in an actual coconut with a straw. So not only am I in a restaurant with honeymooners I am sitting here writing with a huge coconut with a straw looking desire I undergo been stood up. Don’t panic though. I am really enjoying myself. I don’t be anyone to worry but you can have a express emotion at my depreciate just this once.

Hi!My fiance and I have finally decided on Disney for our June 9-14 honeymoon. Now we are narrowing drink our choice of resorts. We would desire to stay at one of the resorts walking hold to Epcot. So my challenge is... Are there less small children at the boat Club than the Beach or Boardwalk? I loooove kids but we were thinking that maybe the Yacht Club might have a more "adult" conclude to it. Any personal experiences would be helpful! Thanks!Elephant Ears Oh the three you mentioned YC probably IMHO has more of an adult feel to it but the distribution of children will not be significantly less overall if you are looking at a romantic feel I would say it rates up there close to the Poly and the GF. The only areas of the property you would likely be a large number of children would be Stormalong Bay and the arcade. Stormalong Bay is so large you would not really encounter a high concentration of kids in one sight. The whole complex is so move out. I don't evaluate you ordain notice a lot of kids. If you be to avoid a lot of children at restaurants try some of the nicer restaurants at the hotels. We had dinner at Artist's inform at the Wilderness dwell recently and left our kids at the kids' club. There were some kids in the restaurant mostly babies too young for the kids' unify but not a lot of kids. I think a Boardwalk area hotel is ideal for a holiday. I evaluate the YC is a great choice. It is Disney so there will be kids but IMO the YC has always been a little quieter than the BC. I love them both but I evaluate the YC is what you're looking for. "He (Walt) was a happy accident; one of the happiest this century has experienced; and judging by the way it's been behaving in arouse of all Disney tried to express it about laughter love children puppies and sunrises the century hardly deserved him." Eric Sevareid. Journalist Thanks for the responses! We're both big kids at heart but we wanted something with a relaxed more adult vibe to go along with all the Disney fun we'll be having. (My pocketbook prevents me from going with the Grand Floridian.) We were looking at Boardwalk too but I hate clowns so the pool there is not my cup of tea. We also wanted a balcony and I read somewhere that the yacht club has balconies for every room. Can anyone confirm if this is adjust?I ordain let you know what we finally decide to schedule!ElephantEars I evaluate YC sounds great. We've only stayed at BC but we picked it because it seemed more kid oriented than YC so.... I accept. YC definitely seems a bit more adult oriented than BC. I just absolutely like that whole area -- I don't think you can go do by!Congrats on the upcoming wedding!! Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I just wanted to share what a small world this is (no pun intended haha): we are also planning our upcoming Disneyworld honeymoon and I undergo nixed the Boardwalk for the same reason as you! I thought that this was kind of a cute coincidence! My preserve and I traveled with another bring together and due to a mix-up (desire story) we stayed at the boat unify while they were at the GF. It was like a second honeymoon for us. We went out to Storm Along Bay in the mornings and floated around the current we went to the piano bar at night after leaving our friends we toured more of World Showcase than we ever had a chance to when we stayed come the MK only because of proximity we rented a surrey on the Boardwalk and generally had a nice "couples" time. I would avoid the breakfast strike anywhere if you're interested in a quieter eat for two. While it's not as romantic as the Poly or GF it has it's own unique sophistication and as others have said a more adult furnish than the Beach Club. We picked the Yacht Club and just made our reservations!!! I'm so excited and desire it were June already! Thanks to all of you for your responses. Now the fun part counting drink to 180 days out for ADRs!!! MousePlanet is not associated in any official way with the Walt Disney Company its subsidiaries or its affiliates. "Honeymoon for Hungry" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-31 00:56:12

The future missus and I are planning our honeymoon for next year. We're interested in the normal combination of sun and smooth but we also be to eat well too. We're not looking to change the car for the experience but we do want to eat well and often. Certain Mexican islands are looking appealing. Any other ideas? I undergo to be honest with you -- I've visited the Caribbean quite a bit in the measure few years and certain Mexican hotspots like Cancun and Cozumel have been decimated in recent years by hurricanes. Entire buildings disappeared from one year to the next... Even this summer has been a mess down there taking out areas further south -- Belize and Honduras (two places I would undergo recommended). The Bahamas has had it relatively easy and sports some pretty good eating. I like Freeport (the Our Lucaya Resort is very nice) better than Nassau in general but the Atlantis Resort in Nassau is spectacular. The other nice thing is that you can act a shuttle journey from Fort Lauderdale for less than $200 go trip. Best of luck with the wedding and honeymoon! Oh - if you end up on a cruise displace. Celebrity and Princess have markedly better food than their parent companies of Royal Caribbean and Carnival respectively. We honeymooned in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico this past March. The weather and scenery were FABULOUS- sunshine sparkling water and super-friendly service. We opted for an all-inclusive package because neither of us had traveled to Mexico before and didn't experience what to evaluate. The food at our hotel was mediocre. We didn't be at a high dollar displace so I can't really say if ours was an isolated experience or if that is the norm for all-inclusives. We ventured out for dinner one night and had a great meal at a local place plus we went on two excursions that included lunch provided by locals. Of the 4 memorable meals we had on the move. 3 of them were offsite which doesn't say a whole lot for the hotel food! We'll definitely return to Mexico but I don't know if we'll go all inclusive. The convenience of eating on site and not having to carry change travelers checks or run up your ascribe card fit is nice but I'm not sure it is worth it when the food is subpar. Maybe I'm too picky... :)

"Honeymoon is over in Jacksonville" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-21 19:20:39

Its official…the Jaguars’ honeymoon is over following a 13-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. I’m not saying that the season is over or the aggroup’s quest to win the conference and alter a deep run in the playoffs is over; just that feeling of exuberance and blinding optimism many fans undergo before the season is over.  A majority of the Jacksonville fan base has been excited since the beginning of the offseason and there was plenty to be eager about. The Jaguars brought in a new offensive coordinator. Dirk Koetter and a new special teams coach. Joe DeCamillis. Then Jacksonville signed what they thought was a rugged alter confront in Tony Pashos who was supposed to be the final piece of a solid offensive lie. Add in players such as Mike Peterson and Reggie Hayward coming approve from injury the addition of local star Reggie Nelson and the end of an emotionally draining quarterback controversy and you have a team that many felt could certainly alter some noise in the AFC this season. That wasn’t the case yesterday though as Jacksonville left the stadium disheartened by what occurred. The Jags gave up a certify high 282 rushing yards to the Titans and ran for only 72. For a aggroup that has been touted to have the beat run defense in the league and a terrific running back combination in Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew it wasn’t exactly the performance Jaguar fans expected. Now what? Fans are starting to go the course claming that the season is over and that instruct Del Rio should be fired. To me that seems a little premature because there are still 15 games left. However this should be a wakeup label to the team. Their new and improved offense still has study kinks in it and their dominant defense was anything but that on Sunday. There is talent on the team but much more work is needed if the aggroup expects to make a playoff run. Fans should still be optimistic but the Titans did deflate the Jags and their entire fan base. It’s weird because a week ago I had high hopes thinking that the Jaguars could be a dark horse for the Super roll. I comfort believe this is a aggroup that can certainly contend but that hopeful outlook is now a little darker and the reality has set in that this team has some major growing to do if they want to be contenders. "How to Have a Sizzler of a Honeymoon! Article No. 6" posted by ~Ray

It wasn’t the wedding of the century. Six people in all arrived at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York to watch the young man and woman transfer their vows. Two more had been invited but as they were running late - and this was before the easy communication of mobiles - too bad for them. The very young and very attractive bride was fetching in her conform to of midnight color with a matching hat trimmed with flog ribbons and buckles. For their honeymoon the groom had chosen a near by hotel where the two celebrated so enthusiastically that they were thrown out of their hotel not desire after their arrival. Undaunted they picked themselves off the sidewalk registered in another hotel and continued to get together. In one of his more lucid moment the educate realized that as much as he adored his wife she was not exactly a fashion coat. flog ribbons and buckles were book in Alabama and may undergo won her the allocate of the most attractive debutant alive but in New York they were very suggestive of country bumpkin. "Sweetie you must do something about those Southern Belle clothes you’ve got. I’ll talk to some of my New York female friends. I’m sure they’ll be delighted to put you on the alter track. After all this is New York and we are on our honeymoon." "But honeybunch can we drop it? Don’t forget we’ve already trashed two hotels and our holiday has barely started." "My dear girl," he said indulgently. "haven’t you ever heard of credit?" "ascribe!" she gasped. "Why my daddy would simply die if he heard me say the word less run around asking for it." "do by doll," he answered with a grimace. "For a adjudicate he’s not a bad choose your daddy. But when it comes to modern living your daddy hasn’t a clue. "Is the democratic honeymoon over?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 08:43:12

I’m increasingly feeling that 2007 will be remembered as a seminal year in South African post-apartheid politics. It is shaping up to be a watershed year. I recently discussed the African National Congress’s 2007 as an annus horribilis but it’s wider than the party. I think 2007 ordain go down as the year that South Africa’s honeymoon believe in democracy falters and debate begins on how to test the boundaries of governance. Before I continue let me be alter. I’m not calling anything near an end for democracy in South Africa far from it but rather a more realistic expectation of what democracy means for our nation. I evaluate this is the crossing of two wider trends in the country. The first being the disillusionment of many of the poorer segments of our society and the resultant move away from liberation party voting and the second being the increasing centralisation of cater in the Presidency and the ANC’s increasing paranoia of power. The increasing prevalence of service-delivery protests in the past two years most recently manifested in Cape Town this week illustrates the growing dissatisfy with the disconnect between what was promised before liberation and the reality of democracy as its exists today. Discontent breeds revolution and I am convinced that revolution is not what we be. What is required is a more sympathetic view from the government towards our poorer classes with the resulting cognisant a enjoin policy shift to assist them to displace themselves out of their misery. What we do not be is revolution whereby this discontented group ushers in a new governmental policy of markedly socialist practice and populist leadership. Our current macroeconomic policies have brought the country much success and while I acknowledge that more must be done to uplift the poor taking a fundamentally more socialist path is in my opinion not the solution. As a inform of digression it is against this backdrop that one sees the relevance of the so-called black-diamond divide the rapidly growing color middle class. A strong color lay categorise is one of the core out success factors for our young democracy. It is here that policies like black economic empowerment’s affirmative procurement and affirmative action find their relevance. Middle classes in modern democracies are the tempering influence on the political and economic framework and go a desire way to ensuring democratic stability and consistency. A solid future for South Africa will be based on a solid color middle categorise. The second key factor in this realignment of democracy’s declare has to do with the ruling party itself. The ANC was very successful in taking control of the mantle of liberation after 1990 and it has enjoyed unabashed cater for 13 years. However in the past two years it has grown more paranoid more centralised and more intolerant. The biggest fear of any democracy is when an overwhelming ruling majority can use its cater on a governmental level to stifle consider and go on opposition politics the very semblance of a democratic system. A hubris seems to undergo developed within the ANC that the celebrate owns political power in South Africa and this allows for the abuse of that power in many cases. We are not alone in this although we suffer without counterbalances. For examples. Republican and Democratic majorities in the United States House and Senate always try to use power to exert influence over each other often at the expense of the voter. However the US is fortunate in having a strong two-party system with an electorate that rewards and castigates on performance. There are no sure wins. In our nation there exists no current counterbalance to the ANC’s power and the effects are illustrative. Much of this must fall unfortunately on the shoulders of our President. Thabo Mbeki. I say “unfortunately” because I personally am a great admirer of our president. His courage to employ strong macroeconomic principles his determination to protect the party and his foreign-policy prowess (Zimbabwe aside) are all redeeming factors. However his increasing paranoia and centralisation of power has led to some unfortunate uses of power and some unfortunate policy positions. The current debacle with the health attend and her former deputy the encouragement of sycophancy through the personal contend of dissidents and his penchant for crushing adjust dialogue with race politics all represent failures to uphold purely democratic ideals. This has led to an ANC-wide testing of the boundaries of bring together play. The Western Cape has seen much of this this year in the dogged determination shown by the ANC’s Western Cape grow to remove the Democratic Alliance-led coalition using any methodology possible including altering the electoral process in the province. The widening gulf between the party and the press and most alarmingly the suggested clamping down on touch freedom (thus far thwarted) are other examples. The most recently illuminating air has been the behaviour of National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete. National Assembly speakers are supposed to be fair and impartial foregoing their party for the create of the National Assembly. Frene Ginwala was an excellent exponent of this. Mbete however dived straight into celebrate politics in refusing a question put to Health attend Manto Tshabalala-Msimang about her theft conviction. This was done on the technicality of it being “offensive and of unbecoming language” a stipulation clearly meant for an entirely different purpose. It’s difficult not to see Mbeki’s transfer in it such is his iron-clad defence of the minister but this will always remain a discuss point. The inform is it’s yet another example of the celebrate changing the rules of a pure democracy to suit its short-term needs. What we’re seeing is a two converging and potentially negative influences on our pure democracy one from the ground up and another from the top down. Discontent on one align power-hungry hubris on the other. Before the “when-wes” run for English or Australian shores it’s important to comprehend that this is a normal process with any young democracy. The so-called purest democratic principles practised in the US undergo seen many changes to its Constitution and incessant changes to its laws. What we as the electorate need to be aware of is that the responsibility lies with us to be vigilant of the protection of our democracy. Democracy is about the cater of the people; not one segment or another but the collective. The only way to ensure that our ideals our very future is not compromised is to be cognisant of these influences and to stand up and provide solutions either by express or by choose. There is no doubt in my mind that our democracy will easily survive these growing pains but we must verify that we come up with a final product that meets the needs of the entire electorate and provides a bedrock for a desire lively and contended democratic future. Mfs one question I can manage there now followed by two that demand separate pieces on their own! On the first. I believe it’s a bit of both. Mbeki’s paranoia has led him to make some decisions that have jeopardised his moral high ground and he has turned a blind eye to some infractions within the celebrate to direct on to a particular position or so as to not assay losing an affiliate. This from the leader of the celebrate allows the party.

"Honeymoon in Napa... where to eat?" posted by ~Ray

I'm getting married in a bring together of weeks and we'll be honeymooning in Northern California (we dwell in Boston). We're going to be in Napa for three weeknights and with all this wedding planning. I have forgotten to make reservations! So given that there's a bit over 2 weeks to go what restaurants would you advise where we could comfort get a table? Seeing as it's our holiday I'm not overly concerned with determine. I be to eat very very come up. I know this is a very broad question but any back up is appreciated! And if you have any "don't desire" wineries as well I'm all ears! See if you can get into Ad Hoc (Thomas Keller's lower priced prix fix restaurant) for one of those nights -- it's in Yountville it's $45 a person (before drinks) and is a set menu every night and the food is fantastic. Other than that what I would do is analyse change state Table (there are a lot of the Napa restaurants on there) and see what restaurants undergo availablity for the nights that you're there and then do searches on this board for those restaurants and see which ones appeal to you the most. I'm trying to use the search utility but it's PAINFUL. I get 1000s of results very few of which have anything to do with Napa other than having someone have in mind the evince. The search is actually very good now.. but here's a tip:Hit search this board and in the window write "call:Napa" [without quotes]. That ordain move up lots of stuff posted in the last year by default. construe the search tips too. heWho the new search function on Chowhound after many here waited for it for so long is remarkable. A blessing. When someone says Napa. I usually consider the both the Napa and Sonoma valleys. ingeminate on trying to get into Ad Hoc. Some other places I've enjoyed have been Martini House. Bistro Jeanty (though this has gone a little down hill from years ago). You could always see if The cut Laundry has any measure minute cancellations but there's consider as to if the determine is really worth the food I always enjoyed starting a day at Basque Boulangerie Cafe for eat. Don't desire wineries consider Hendrig and Honig but both require reservations made in advance. Basque is great but it's not really a restaurant (just mention that since OP is asking about needing reservations). Definitely analyse it out for their pastries and coffee if you're in Sonoma. Some other restaurants worth looking into in Sonoma are Cafe La Haye and General's Daughter. Reservations are nice but I wouldn't panic. This Saturday night we went to Mustards Grill at 7:30 p m. We we told the wait for a delay was about an hour and one-half but we were seated immediately at the bar. That was great because we chose 4 separate wines with suggestions from the bartender. The food was wonderful with ample portions (couldn’t cut dessert). Just before 6:00 p m. Sunday night at the suggestion of Mr. Milat at Milat Winery we walked into Bistro Jeanty and were seated immediately. We enjoyed two outstanding specials: a cured meats appetizer and a fresh cull cover pudding dessert. So you may adjudicate we were looking for casual trattoria write dining such as we open not Michelin starred restaurants.

"Tidbits from our Chicago Honeymoon" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-24 01:15:37

My wife and I returned last night from our holiday in Chicago (6 nights. 5 days). Let me say my affix by saying that we had a great time and that we found your city to be beautiful and friendly (except for some of the aggressive drivers). I intend to affix a full review of our meals at a later date (no measure to do so yet). But here are some brief impressions: Tuesday night: Dinner at Everest. We loved our meal here and it was my favourite of the entire trip. Highlights were the Lobster roasted in Alsatian gewurztraminer cover and spice (Lornna's main!); the Colorado pace of bear served with perfectly cooked minted couscous; and the desserts (Lornna had the chocolate conceive of which was one of the best chocolate desserts I undergo ever tasted; I had the wonderfully light Grand Marnier souffle). Oh and the wine list was mindblowingly thorough; our sommelier told us that Everest has the largest selection of Alsation wines of any restaurant in the world! We enjoyed one of the beat rieslings that I have ever tasted the '97 Trimbach Cuvee Frederick Emile. Wednesday: Breakfast at Ann Sather's next to our hotel; very mediocre and forgettable but the cinnamon buns were good and fresh. Lunch at Rhapsody (we spent the day at the Art Institutue). Food there was fairly good but menu was all over the map too eclectic for the kitchen to excel at anything. Dinner: Topolobampo. Lornna's favourite meal of the trip. Fantastic food and one of the most knowledgeable servers I undergo ever encountered! Ingredients were fresh local seasonal delicious. Tomatoes were featured in the current tasting menus as they should be at this time of year. I had the most ameliorate tomato salad. Great desserts beautiful corn-based items. One comment: the food was not at all hot spice-wise. Very mild. I can see why some would not like it for this reason--after all it is Mexican food. I can forgive this though when the kitchen is clearly using such killer ingredients. I had the Mole tasting menu. My favourite course was the roasted Crawford Farm bear in Oaxacan color mole (made from more than 30 ingredients!) Lornna had the slightly more expensive Celebration Menu. Her favourite course was dessert which consisted of 3 beautiful chocolate itmes (crepes tart and ice beat). Dinner: Cafe Spiaggia. We LOVED our meal here. I had a tomato and cow mozzarella salad that featured one of the best tomatoes I have eaten in recent memory! The prices were reasonable. The slow-roasted pork served over garlicky greens and creamy polenta was delicious! Lornna's gnocchi were delicate and light unlike some of the dense clumsy gnocchi I undergo tasted in lesser Italian restaurants. Only food complaint I have is that Lornna's wood-oven roasted octopus was a bit on the chewy side (crispy and charred on the ascend a bit chewy inside). But that is always a hazard with any octopus-related food item. Friday: eat at Orange. Disappointing. But my oatmeal was actually pretty healthy-tasting. Lornna's eggs (a go) were bland and boring. Dinner: Deep cater pizza at Lou Malnati's. The "Lou" with sausage as an extra. This was my first Chicago deep cater pizza so I have no point of reference. We enjoyed it for what it was and it gave us lots of fuel for the Flaming Lips concert that night. I like thin-crust pizza made with higher-quality ingredients. This cram tasted slightly goopy to me but I can get into that too! Still. I desire that Spacca Napoli had not been closed the week we were in town. Saturday: Dinner at Sola. A disappointment. Good appies good desserts but the mains were not come up executed. My scallops were huge but were cold as was Lornna's bear. And the wasabi change surface on my scallops did not go through at all (comprehend was bland). A very popular place though (packed and with outdoor seating packed as come up). Sunday: Brunch at erwin was my favourite eat meal during our trip to Chicago. I had a really good scramble there and our server bought Lornna a mimosa! Dinner: Gibson's. My sweetie and I were divided on Gibson's. I was quite disappointed. Even though I had been warned that the sides were not good. I was not prepared for the Caesar salad that was presented to me with soggy unappetizing romaine; cheap parmesan and crummy croutons. Lornna's house salad looked awful (but she liked it). The mashed potatoes were pretty good though. The sauteed spinach and mushrooms with garlic were good too. The real point was the meat. I chose Gibson's after reading through various reviews on Chowhounds. The steak was good no disbelieve. It had quite a burn on the outside maybe a bit too much of a char for my taste. It was cooked to order (medium rare). Lornna and I both got the W. R centre-cut a bone-in. 22 ounce ribeye. I'm getting older. I anticipate because I had a hard measure packing back all 22 ounces. It became more of a chore than a pleasure about half-way through the meal. I would have ordered a smaller ribeye had they offered one on the menu. Lornna loved her steak.
